PhotoKlassik International Rebrands to SilvergrainClassics

In 2018, PhotoKlassik international launched a Kickstarter as an international, analog photography publication to the German-based photo magazine ‘PhotoKlassik’. Since its Kickstarter 18-months ago, PhotoKlassik international quickly grew to readers across more than 50 countries.

On the eve of their first issue for 2020, PhotoKlassik International has announced their publication will be rebranded to “SilvergrainClassics.” According to their press release, SilvergrainClassics will deliver the same quality content as PhotoKlassik International, but just under a different brand name.

In SilvergrainClassic’s press release, they detail the reasons for the name change. As a result of their growth, PhotoKlassik International grew to become its own identity from it’s sister publication, PhotoKlassik.

While working on this transition, we heard variations on the same comment again and again.  “We already have PhotoKlassik,” in reference to the German magazine.  “Why should I get it in English? Is there a difference?”  There were also mix-ups with email contacts, social media posts, and website searches.  It became clear that we needed to cut the apron strings, as it were, and name our own brand.

Silvergrain Classics

According to Charys Schuler, editor at PhotoKlassik International, the name change was simple because their alternate operation, SilvergainStudioLab, existed prior to PhotoKlassik International.

In addition to the name change, SilvergrainClassics will launch a new website with a blog collecting manuals for cameras and photo equipment. The site will also provide information about their photo lab offerings and workshops.

SilvergrainClassics states their transition to the new site will span a few more weeks, but will continue to accept orders on their existing site. Existing subscriptions will remain unchanged and will deliver as scheduled.
