Volcanic Aotearoa – A New Photobook from Stephen Milner
If you’re a fan of stunning landscapes then you may have heard of New Zealand based photographer Stephen Milner. Note for his work in both digital and film and excellent content on his YouTube channel, Stephen is proud to announce his latest project. Volcanic Aoteara!

For those unfamiliar with Stephen, he has been working behind the camera since 2012, and has earned several awards for his work. But Stephen also wanted to be something different. He desired to create empowering images that go beyond simply recording landscapes. He uses these images as a series to tell a story through a common theme. He has worked with medium formats since 2019 using a mix of 6×6 and 6×7 images with a Hasselblad 503cx and Mamiya 6 and Mamiya 6. All his film has been developed by PCL Imaging in Auckland, and this entire book has been shot using these three cameras. While known for its desctructive power, Volcanos have a beautful and deadly effect on the landscape. In this book, Stephen aims to share not only the beauty but the dangers of New Zealand’s Volcanos. The title, Volcanic Aoteroa, takes the original name for the island nation, and is a dedication to all those who came before him who settled and lived in the shadow of this awesome power. The book is a 100-page 285mmx285mm publiction that includes GeoNet Information as well as the legends from the Maori. In order to support the publication, Stephen is launching a Kickstarter campaign on 13 August 2022, with the book costing 55 NZD (38 USD, 45 CAD).
